Less than a month before the election, a super PAC was established with Elon Musk as its only financier. Its primary goal was to persuade voters that Donald Trump’s views on abortion were similar to those of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Federal campaign finance reports released this week show that a group called RBG PAC, which was established in mid-October, got a single $20.5 million payment from an organization called “Elon Musk Revocable Trust” one week later. Musk’s association with the nonprofit, which he did not discuss publicly, was not made public until the forms were made public due to the short time between the donation and Thursday’s reporting deadline.

The RBG PAC group released a television commercial in the final weeks before the election on November 5th, highlighting Trump’s claims that he “does support reasonable exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother” and that he would not sign a national abortion ban as president.

Although Ginsburg thought that a woman’s right to an abortion was guaranteed by the Constitution, she stated in 2012 that the historic Roe v. Wade ruling “moved too far too fast,” which might have altered the course of the abortion rights debate in the decades that followed.

Three of the Supreme Court judges who voted to overturn Roe in 2022 were nominated by Trump. This made it possible for numerous conservative-led states to restrict or outright prohibit access to abortion.

A report submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Thursday claims that the Musk organization used almost all of its funds for text messages, mailers, and digital advertisements.

The cash for that group is a tiny portion of the more than $200 million Musk spent during the 2024 election cycle, the majority of which went to his super PAC, which was created to help elect Trump. This shows how powerful the affluent are hoping to be in American politics and Trump’s new government.

Musk, who is the richest man in the world, invested millions of dollars in a campaign to help the former president win back the presidency. He is well-known politically for turning Twitter into X, a site that supporters of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement have embraced.

America PAC, Musk’s super PAC, produced advertisements warning that “Kamala and the crazies will win” if voters did not cast ballots. Before a judge ruled that the PAC could proceed, the organization was in court for launching a $1 million-per-day voter prize.

The filing was made on Thursday while Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy were meeting behind closed doors with senators on Capitol Hill to discuss Trump’s DOGE plan to abolish portions of the federal government.

As part of his “Save America” strategy for a second term in office, Trump appointed the two giants of business to lead his Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, a nongovernmental task force tasked with identifying ways to reduce federal regulations, cut programs, and fire federal employees.
